Locksley Munroe

Locksley Uriah Munroe BSc; MBBS; FRCSEd; D.M. (Gen. Surg.)was born at Duncan’s Town Ragged Island where he attended The Ragged Island All age school. In 1968 after the common entrance examination he moved to New Providence to attend The Government High School until 1975.

While there; he was successful at the BJC, GCE O’ and A’ levels.   Aside from his academics, Dr. Munroe was an active member of the Key Club and a Prefect he was also skilled in soccer, volleyball and cricket, as well as a top middle distance runner.

In 1975, he was accepted into faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of West Indies and a year later, transferred to The Faculty of Medicine.

During this journey in education a number of prizes have been won; The Biology Prize, The Noel Hayes Prize for Anatomy, and The Chin Yees’ Prize for Surgery, Biochemistry Scholarship for studies at the University of London 1978 after 2nd MB.  Of note Dr. Munroe was the first Bahamian to qualify with the DM in General surgery 1992 completing the programme within the designated 5year period. He is an Associate Lecturer of UWI (Bahamas) Clinical Tutor.

He has co-authored one paper published in the West Indian Medical Journal, made many presentations locally as well as internationally, moderated many sessions for The MAB and SLS and organized Workshop on Laparoscopic Surgery.

He has membership in many organizations the Hospital Doctors Association and has served in the capacity as secretary, president and trustee. The CPSA, MAB, SLS, ASJ, COS and CASES. He has served as director of the operating theatres and Chief of Service Department of Surgery PMH.  (Past) Deputy Chairman, Hospitals and Healthcare facilities licensing Board. Past member of The Bahamas Medical Council, Board Member of the Bahamas Anti-Doping Commission. He has certified as a Doping Control Officer

Charities include BASRA, Sister-Sister Breast Cancer Support Group and the Cancer Society.

Dr. Munroe’s recreational activities include boating where he is certified in Coastal Navigation, table tennis and gardening

His main goal in life is alleviate SSHb and to cure cancer.
